The Washington DC VAMC provides best-practice surgical and procedural care to veterans ranging from common outpatient procedures to complex surgeries (general surgery, ENT, urologic, orthopedic, plastic and reconstructive, cardiothoracic, vascular, gynecologic, GI, EP etc.).

While not required, preference will be given to candidates with additional training and/or experience in the following anesthesia subspecialties:
  1. Advanced cardiothoracic anesthesia training.
  2. Acute perioperative pain management/regional anesthesia.
  3. Perioperative anesthesia services.
Applicants must have a strong desire to teach residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists, and other learners in the VA system.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide anesthesia and perioperative services to surgical and out of the operating room procedures.
  • The main model of anesthesia care is a team model when the anesthesiologist is supervising CRNAs or Residents. However, there are opportunities to perform own cases as a solo anesthesiologist while help is always available.
  • Family friendly schedule with 8 – 10 hours days on a rotating basis and on average 40 hours work weekly.
  • General call from home approximately 1 day per week and every 8th weekend call from home.
  • Wide range of other cases including Ortho, ENT, Gen Surg, Vascular, Gyn, Urology, Plastics, Ophtho
  • Off-site cases include GI, EP, Bronch, IR. Potential to expand EP to include TAVRs, Mitra-Clips, Watchman, etc.
  • Fantastic group of Anesthesiologists, CRNAs, NPs, Surgeons, Perioperative personnel, who work very well together in a team environment.
  • Opportunity to work with Anesthesia Residents & SRNAs and other trainees in all anesthetized locations.
  • Ability for dedicated time for rest and relaxation post call and administrative duties.

VA Benefits:

Pay: Competitive salary, 370-400K, plus incentive, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and 5 day paid absence for CME)
