This position will support Emergency Department, Urgent Care Center and Immediate Care Center. The purpose of the Physician Assistant is to assist the physicians of the practice with clinical activities, surgeries and other direct patient care including diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative care. Physician Assistants work under the direct supervision of practice doctors.

Experience Required

All Shifts are 12 hour shifts 7:00 am – 7:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 7:00 am

One provider on staff per shift

Full time 11 shifts per month

Essential Job Functions:

Perform patient history and physical examinations

Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic health problems

Order, and interpret laboratory and radiology tests

Prescribe medication, including controlled substances as delegated in collaborative practice agreement

Document assessment, management, and education clearly, concisely, and legibly within medical record

Demonstrate strong communication skills with patients and significant others to provide feedback regarding findings and treatment plans

Assess the patient and significant other’s psychosocial, emotional, and environmental needs

Consult other health care team members in collaboration with physician to meet physician needs, while ensuring continuity of care

Provide phone triage to assess patient’s needs and conditions and respond appropriately

Coordinate patient care activities with other members of the office, hospital, or community

Provide education to patients, families, and community groups.

Demonstrate compliance with documentation and coding requirements

Maintain and update skills and knowledge

Work with all members of the team to achieve patient centered care as well as quality care by using the best practice standards and case management

Contribute to scheduled team meetings to discuss/clarify roles, responsibility, processes, and patient issues

Provide care management by communicating with community agencies as appropriate

Participate in quality improvement activities and committees

Hospital rounds to support the needs of the practice

On-call duties including emergency call and telephone call, to support the needs of the practice

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Must be able to exercise a high level of independent judgment

Exceptional service attitude and communication style

Maintains highest level of confidentiality

Excellent written and verbal skills

Demonstrates clinical competency as defined by organizational standards and protocol

BLS Certification

Maintain CME requirements

Professional appearance and demeanor

Education and Experience:

Current NYS license and board certification

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program

Current BLS Certification

Physical Requirements:

Sitting: 20%

Standing: 80%

Reaching: 50%

Bending: 50%

Lifting: Must be able to lift 40 pounds

Working Environment:

Pleasant conditions: comfortable indoor climate with suitable equipment and tools to carry out the responsibilities of the job.
