Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M., with potential for some weekends, as well as on-call coverage; however, subject to change, depending on the needs of the service/medical center.

Duties
  • Physician's clinical activity shall be a function of the VAMC Executive Committee of the Medical Staff clinical privileging process.
  • Provides direct hands-on patient care including evaluation and treatment of the hematology/oncology patients, determination whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting, and management of chronic disease.
  • Comprehensive initial medical/psychosocial history and physical examination.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic tests and work-up.
  • Review and interpret diagnostic tests and take appropriate action.
  • Formulate and record diagnostic impressions.
  • Refer patients with appropriate consultations both within the VA and in the community.
  • Provide clinical guidance to patients, families and other heath care providers over the phone, secure messaging or through the mail to coordinate health care, educate and give advice.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of medical assessments, interactions and observations.
  • Responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students. May be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
  • Enter orders into CPRS for medications, consults, testing etc.
  • Demonstrates current clinical practice.
  • Attend Medical Center and community meetings, seminars, conferences.
  • Establishes inter-personal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care
  • Demonstrates competent and effective oral and written communication and provides appropriate patient/family member teaching and education.
  • Maintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods of all in- clinic procedures.
