Ogallala Community Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse Service Line Lead in Ogallala, Nebraska. We have a Service Line Lead opportunity for our MedSurg, our WIS and our ED departments. These position's are 40-hours per week with two 12-hour bedside shifts and two 8-hour paper shifts where you will manage handling Verge reports, staffing issues/concerns, equipment issues/concerns and participation in relevant committees. Two years' OB or ED experience required along with a BSN being preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for supporting nursing leadership as well as planning and providing clinical support to patients and staff in a specific service line (ie: Med/Surg; OB; ED; etc.). This role performs under the guidance of the Associate Director, RN and collaborates with all other RN Service Line Leads to support the quality and continuity of services throughout the facility. This position coordinates oversight of quality, risk management, safety and nursing standards and collaborates with Clinical Education to coordinate and support the on-boarding and precepting of newly hired nurses within the designated service line.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

1. Oversees the operations of the service line to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management. Assures appropriate patient assignments to beds and staff. Collaborates with other Service Line Leads to complete daily rounding on patients and staff to ensure quality provision of care.

2. Performs standard assignments within own job functions. Expanding knowledge of fundamental theories, practices, procedures, and concepts within the role’s function.

3. Manages the service line to ensure patient and employee satisfaction while promoting safety and retention. Serves as a real time resource and assists with clinical expertise for unit staff and physicians for problem-solving on patients, processes, and family issues.

4. Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvements. Aligns and manages to metrics.

5. Collaborates with leader to develop leadership skills among staff including communication, decision-making, problem-solving/critical thinking, and employee engagement. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.

6. Facilitates service line meetings and shared governance/leadership efforts.

7. Responsible for assisting in selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention. Aligns with leader to coach and in development opportunities to create a culture of learning.

8. Assists in the development of the operational and capital budget needs of the service line. Provides daily operational resource management including staff, supplies and equipment, and ensures optimal productivity for the service line.

9. Oversees service line staff to ensure excellent patient care. Participates in activities that foster management skills while enabling staff to care for patients, determine schedules, edit timecards, research budget issues and order supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of nursing and healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of an Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Requires a current RN license in state of practice. Requires certification for BLS.

Must possess at 2 or more years of clinical experience relevant to patient population.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills of specialty area. Requires critical thinking, communication, influence, decision-making, analytical, and flexibility skills to make optimal decisions based on multiple variables and desired outcomes.
